We are not a “perfect” church, HOWEVER we are a church being perfected by the grace of God and the Power of the Holy Spirt.

On November 15, 2008, Pastor Mike was appointed by the Right Reverend Gregory G.M. Ingram serve as the founding pastor of Joy Tabernacle A.M.E. Church. Officially launched on December 7, 2008, Joy Tabernacle became the fastest-growing congregation in the A.M.E. Church in Texas and the first successfully established new A.M.E. Church in the North Texas Annual Conference in over forty years.

On October 1, 2016, the Right Reverend Vashti Murphy McKenzie appointed Pastor Mike to serve both Joy Tabernacle and the nearly-century old Agape Temple A.M.E. Church, which at the time was facing foreclosure on their recently constructed church. Pastor Mike pastored the two congregations as one congregation in both locations. By the grace of all mighty God, worshiping, working, and serving together as one church, Joy Tabernacle and Agape Temple paid off the mortgage on the new sanctuary early.

During the 2019 North Texas Annual Conference, the conference approved Joy Tabernacle and Agape Temple’s desire to officially join together as a newly founded congregation and under a new name, Abundant Life A.M.E. Church. On January 1, 2020, Abundant Life officially launched as a new ministry. Just three months later, the global COVID-19 pandemic caused Abundant Life to close its physical doors and conduct worship virtually. Over this time, Abundant Life gain members across the country who remain active in our online ministries and fellowships.



Since March 2022, in-person worship experiences have recommenced, major capitol improvement projects have been completed, new ministries have been established, new community outreach programs created, and new members have joined Abundant Life A.M.E. Church, to the glory of God! And the best is yet to come! 

Pastor’s Biography

The Reverend Dr. Michael W. Waters, affectionately known as “Pastor Mike,” is the founder and lead pastor of Abundant Life A.M.E. Church. A fifth-generation ordained minister in the A.M.E. Church, Pastor Mike is a nationally-respected leader dedicated to seeking spiritual and social transformation among the communities that he serves. Although his ministry has been formally recognized by U.S. Presidents and members of Congress, and although this voice has reached millions across the world, his greatest affirmation of ministry has come locally while serving and standing in solidarity with others. A lover of God and of God’s people, Pastor Mike enjoys sports, music, reading, great conversation, and, most of all, spending quality time with his family.
